Ilorin – An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced Olaitan Adebayo to twelve months imprisonment for stealing a Nokia handset and N1500.
The convict was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft, contrary to Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
According to the charge sheet, the convict went into the shop of one Kolapo Musilimat and stole her bag containing the said items.
The charge sheet said the convict was sighted by the owner, who shouted for help, which led to the arrest of the accused.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Kareem Jimoh told the court that the accused had been convicted sometimes in Jan 2011 for a similar offence of stealing.
He applied for the summary trial of the accused since he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Also in Ilorin on Monday, same Court remanded four suspects standing trial on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, house breaking and theft.
The accused, Suleiman Kanike, Rasheed Raheem, Wasiu Usman and Olarewaju Kolawole, were alleged to have broken into the house of one Tunde Oriokoh and carted away valuable items.
They were alleged to have made away with two HP and one Dell laptops, home electronics, jewelry, two wrist watches, clothes as well as other valuables.
According to the charge sheet, the accused trespassed into the complainant’s house on April 19 at Odota area of Ilorin and made away with the said items.
The police prosecutor, Insp Kareem Jimoh, told the court that one wrist watch was recovered from Kanike.
He said one of the stolen laptops was also recovered from Raheem while Kanike’s arrest led to the arrest of the other suspects.
The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to sections 97, 353 and 288 of the Penal Code.
He also objected to the bail of the accused on the ground that the alleged offences were not bail able.
Magistrate Nurudeen Adeyanju ordered the accused to be remanded in Modala Prison in Ilorin and adjourned the case to July 7. (NAN)
